AIE sign exclusive licence agreement to use patented engine technology
For more than 40 years David Garside has been one of the leading names in rotary engine research. Now, AIE have signed an exclusive license agreement with the inventor to use his patented technology in their range of world-class engines.
David worked on Norton motorcycles in the 1960s through the 1980s and has been in the engine design and engineering business for decades.
Over the years he has developed a unique system called SPARCS, for Self-Pressurising-Air Rotor Cooling System, which uses self-pressurising blow-by air and gases to cool the engine. SPARCS results in a lighter engine which uses less oil and lasts longer. This means that the total cost of ownership is reduced and the vehicle benefits from a larger payload capacity and improved endurance.
Now, AIE have signed an agreement for exclusive use of three patented technologies:
SPARCS – a superior cooling system that results in longer engine life and more efficient engines
Compact SPARCS – thermal balancing leads to longer engine life, less wear and tear and a lower total cost of ownership
CREEV – the Compound Rotary Engine for Electric Vehicles combines a rotary engine and exhaust expander to increase power output and reduce fuel consumption
Nathan Bailey, Managing Director of AIE, said: “AIE are the latest incarnation of a design, development and manufacturing heritage that stretches back to Norton in the 1960s. David is a key part of this heritage and we’re delighted to sign this agreement which means we can exclusively use David’s patents in our world-class engines.
“This will also allow AIE to develop further applications based on the SPARCS technology over coming years.”
